Timothée Chalamet's Marty Supreme may have sparked the American dream for many, but at the BAFTA Awards, it faced unexpected disappointment. Despite receiving 11 nominations, the prime Oscar contender Marty Supreme left the British Academy Awards without a single win.
The film had high hopes entering the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), especially for leading actor Timothée Chalamet, who had already gained recognition at the Critics' Choice Awards and the Golden Globes earlier in the season.
In a surprising turn of events, Chalamet lost to Robert Aramayo from the movie I Swear in the category for best actor.
Joining the ranks of films like Women in Love (1969) and Finding Neverland (2004), Marty Supreme is now among the few movies to walk away empty-handed with 11 BAFTA nominations.
Interestingly, despite their BAFTA setbacks, both Women in Love and Finding Neverland managed to secure at least one Oscar win each on their respective award nights, as reported by Variety.
However, the journey for Marty Supreme is far from over as it remains a strong contender for the upcoming Oscars in 2026. Previous Oscar winners like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Moonlight faced similar BAFTA snubs but went on to secure multiple Oscars.
Despite missing out on a BAFTA win, Marty Supreme still holds nine Oscar nominations, with the final voting period running from February 26 to March 5. The 98th Oscars ceremony will take place on March 15, hosted by TV personality Conan O'Brien.
